In this time of the year here in South Florida we experience the tropical version of “winter”, also known as the “rainy season”. The month of September also brings cooler weather to the northern areas of the USA and Europe, where autumn or fall brings the grape harvest and the multicolored “fall” of leaves. Here in Florida, however, it’s the ripe coconuts that will fall, frequently due to the intense wind and rain.

But, no matter what may fall, the increased dampness in our environment is a factor to be dealt with, to prevent water accumulating in the wrong places, whether it’s ensuring the gutters are clear for drainage, or the roof and windows sealed. Our bodies and minds are no different. Contrary to our what our clocks, computers and work schedules would suggest, humans are inextricably connected to nature’s cycles and changes. Have you ever noticed, for example, that even though your thermostat is consistently set at a certain temperature and your air conditioning system maintains that temperature accurately in your home, you still feel colder when it cools down outside, or the reverse when it’s hot?

And, according to Oriental Medicine (and acupuncture) external factors, such the wind, rain, and sun have an important effect on us. They can be useful if managed with wisdom or harmful if mismanaged and misunderstood.

Well, it’s because humans were meant to feel a deep connection with this beautiful planet that we call Earth as well as the rest of the universe. Therefore, there is no escaping natural cycles and “external” influences. Women, of course, understand this intuitively because, for many years, their bodies exemplify the moon’s cycles. But, actually, anyone who spends plenty of time in nature, or with animals and/or listens to their own cycles, learning from them, will also understand and accept this movement. More importantly, understanding these factors’ effects on your body, as will help you adapt better and remain healthier.

That is why for many, the ancient wisdom of acupuncture and Oriental medicine are a harmonious and proven way to balance and strengthen the body. So, whether you’re hoping to remain symptom free, or just minimizing a health condition’s effect on your day-to-day, feel free to call or text Acupuncture of Weston to discuss how you can maximize your ability to adapt and thrive.

Helping you achieve success in your healing journey!

BIENESTAR EN OTOÑO - ACUPUNCTURE OF WESTON - 2026
